webmasterDecember 13, 2016December 13, 2016As the year comes to end, it’s time to take a good look at the technology that really took off this year. As business professionals, did you or your company use any of the technologies listed below in your corporate environment? Let’s explore which technologies made the 2016 list and let us know what you think about these trends. Was anything missed? 5 Technology Winners Virtual and Augmented Reality By now, you have either tried VR or AR on for size or you have viewed several TV commercials about it. While both technologies came to the mainstream earlier this year, they have been accepted both in the consumer and business world. Not sure which technology to use or develop your application on? Check out our AR and VR Product Comparison and then rent your top two virtual reality choices from us to see which one fits your needs better. Live Mobile Video Streaming Applications such as Facebook Live, Periscope, and Instagram Story are fully integrated into the app, easy to use and can allow businesses to convey their message to live and remote attendees as the video unfolds. Businesses are using these apps to connect with Gen Y and Z, who digest most materials via video. However, due to its ease of use and lack of upload time, these apps are gaining traction with all generation groups. Application Streaming The server sends the user enough information to launch the application (usually as little as 10% of the application) and then streams the rest to the client in the background. Application streaming uses the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) and is often used in conjunction with desktop virtualization. This helps keep bandwidth from overloading because the user is fed the application in bite-sized chunks. In addition, individuals can preview an application during a search process to see if it is what they want before a download occurs, thus potentially saving valuable space on a mobile device. Artificial Intelligent Assistants Smartphone digital assistants have been around for years (i.e. Siri, Cortana) but now there is a rise in desktop AI assistants such as Amazon Echo and Google Home that can learn as they go along. They also work with intelligent items (IoT – see below) within your office. Commands like “turn on the office lights”, “reduce the air conditioning to 75 degrees” or “play a podcast” are things these assistants can handle with ease, given the right parameters. Look for more uses of this technology in the coming year. Internet of Things Rather than working independently, “smart” technology such as UHD monitor rentals, alarm systems, office equipment, appliances, and automobiles are being linked together in one network allowing authorized users to control technology through a mobile app or through AI instruction. Developers are working frantically to make technology work across all platforms, without compromising the security and integrity of each device. Look for more breakthroughs in the coming year.
