DO Communicate Your Overall Plan.

Changing out servers just for the sake of faster, sleeker hardware is usually not a good idea. Server migration needs to be part of an overall business case that conveys the reasons the existing server no longer works for your organization. This plan may entail several steps and constitute work over many months. However, regular meetings with management should help gain buy-in to the plan.

DON’T Go Live Too Soon.

Testing is a key component to a successful migration. The more extensive testing that is completed, the better chance you have catching issues in the development environment. Depending on the volume and complexity of the data, this may take several weeks to complete.
