The fall season has officially arrived and it seems like businesses and employees are gearing up to finish the year strong. The same is true in the world of technology! Top Tech Announcements for Sept. 2019

Apple September Event

More iPhones

If it’s September, it means it is time for Apple to announce new iPhone models. They did not disappoint when they revealed three models: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. All three models feature the new A13 Bionic chip, the “fastest CPU and SPU ever in a smartphone” according to Apple.

The iPhone 11 is a 6.1 inch liquid retina display with a powerful dual-camera and new ultra-wide lens with 120-degree field of view. The all-day battery lets you do more and charge less.

The iPhone Pro (5.8 inch “Super Retina XDR” OLED display) and iPhone Pro Max (6.5 inch “Super Retina XDR” OLED display) features the all-new triple camera system that will change how you shoot. It has a 12 MP wide-angle lens, 12 MP telephoto lens, and 12 MP ultra-wide lens. With the new interface, you will be able to preview the ultra-wide lens when using the wide, and preview the wide when using the telephoto. While using one lens, you're able to simultaneously see what the other lens view looks like from a sub-frame at the edge of your primary view. How cool is that?

Lastly, Apple claims the Pro and Pro Max phone have up to 5 more hours of battery life than previous models.

New iPad

With a larger 10.2-inch Retina display and A10 fusion chip, the new iPad combines the power and capability of a computer with the ease of use and versatility of a tablet. The fusion chip lets you edit a 4K video, play graphics-intensive games and experience AR apps.

When you need to type, you just attach the full-size Smart keyboard to the iPad. It is that simple. When done, it folds up to become a slim, lightweight cover.

The new iPad offers full support for Apple pencil which lets you turn your iPad into a notepad, canvas or anything else you can think of.

VR Still Evolving

In San Jose, the Oculus Connect 6 developer conference is happening on September 25 and 26th. On Wednesday, there were two major announcements to the Oculus Quest VR headset, the all-in-one device.

One is that the headset will support hand tracking in 2020. “Hand tracking will revolutionize input for VR.” said Oculus VR hardware product manager Stephanie Lue during the keynote. “This is going to be a game changer.”

The second announcement was the introduction of Oculus Link, a USB cable that will tether the standalone Quest headset to a gaming-certified PC, allowing users to play Rift-based games from a PC. This will be available in November.

Additionally, there is a new software initiative for Oculus VR, known as Horizon. This will let people create their own environment in virtual reality allowing them to play games, explore and hang out with friend in this social VR world.

Amazon event 2019

During their event on Wednesday, September 25th, Amazon announced a new batch of Alexa-powered products; these include Echo Studio, Echo Show 8 and Echo Dot with a clock.

In addition, the online retailer unveiled Echo Buds earbud and an experimental product, Echo frames eyewear. The new buds have integrated Alexa support and include noise reduction technology from Bose.

The Echo glasses look like normal glasses but inconspicuously direct Alexa’s responses to your queries directly into your ear. You can swipe the side of the glasses to get more information, set reminders and user smart home gear while on the go.

“Alexa, can you…”

Another Apple Fall Event?

In case anyone is keeping track, Apple has held a special event in October almost every year since 2011, with 2015 and 2017 being the only exceptions. Plus, the Mac has been featured at every one of these events; given the complete absence of the Mac in September’s event, industry pundits believe that Apple will host an October event with the following announcements:

  • New MacBook Pro with a display size of over 16-inches
  • Better specs and cameras to the iPad Pro
  • Better specs to the iMac Pro

Stayed tune to see what happens…
