6 Tips For Preserving iPad Battery Life

When it comes to iPads, we completely understand that “love at first site” is an understatement when first using one. Let’s face it, it’s normal to use your iPad for everything since it can do so much. Though all good things must come to an end, here are some tips to help your iPad battery last longer:

  1. Make sure all of the apps are closed. The more apps open, the more battery is being used. To close the apps that aren’t being used, double tap the home button (the middle button on the bottom of your iPad). All of the open apps will appear at the bottom of your screen. Press and hold any one of these apps until they all start to move. Then, a red button should appear in the left corner of each of these open apps. Tap that red button on each app that you want to close. When you’re done closing all of the apps you want to close, double tap the home button to return to the home screen as usual.
  2. If you are using Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to the proper network. If your tablet automatically joins a specific network when you turn on your Wi-Fi, make sure it is the fastest one and/or the proper available one for your location.
  3. If you don’t need the internet at any given time, turn off Wi-Fi and/or the built in data connection if yours has it. To turn off Wi-Fi, go to the Settings app and tap “Wi-Fi” on the left settings menu. Then, the Wi-Fi settings should appear on the right side, slide the “On” button to “Off.” To turn off the, potentially, built in data connection, tap the Settings app and select “General” from the settings options on the left side of the screen. Then, go to “Network” and slide your data connection (Ex. “3G”) to “Off.”
  4. Turn off location settings. If you don’t need to use the GPS function of your iPad, go to the Settings app and select “Privacy” from the left settings options. Then, select “Location Services” from the privacy options when they appear on the right side of the screen. Slide Location Services from “On” to “Off.”
  5. Reduce the brightness of your screen. The brighter your screen, the more battery is being used. Thus the dimmer you make your screen , the less battery is being used. Go to the Settings app and select “Brightness & Wallpaper” from your settings options on the left side of the screen. Then, adjust the brightness based on your preference.
  6. Adjust the auto-lock time for your screen. The shorter the time before it locks, the less battery will be used. Go to the Settings app and tap “General” in the settings options listed on the left side of the screen. Then tap “Auto-Lock” and choose the amount of time.
