4 Technology Trends from 2015 to Watch in 2016

Technology Trends That Will Continue in 2016

With the New Year just around the corner, it is important to look back at the meeting trends that have taken hold this year. PCMA identified four they believe will continue to be important to attendees in the coming year. Here they are, along with my own assessment of how technology rentals will play into these challenges and changes.

4 Key Trends

As Airbnb, TripAdvisor and other housing and review portals continue to gain steam, it is going to be more challenging for meeting planners to keep the integrity of their room block without facing attrition clause problems.

In fact, Experient has teamed up with Airbnb to offer this housing option to their clients as they look to keep in step with what their clients want.

There is no doubt that attendees will continue to look at other options when it comes to accommodations that cater to their personal preferences, meet their price point and/or offer outstanding venue reviews.

Always Available, Secure Internet

As you have experienced in 2015, fast and constantly available Internet service is vital for attendees. However, cybersecurity continues to be a concern as hackers present opportunities to gain access to your attendees’ accounts in new, creative ways.

Therefore, it is vital that you understand the Internet capabilities of the meeting venue, how they monitor peak loads and their security policies. In some instances, it may be more advantageous to have your own Wifi hotspot rentals if Wi-Fi is scarce or you feel your attendees are at risk of being hacked.

Digitized Content

Whether you are offering live streaming to attendees on second screens via iPad rentals or you are recording your conference for On Demand viewing at a later date, there is no longer a reason to keep video at bay.

While it is true that video does eat up a lot of bandwidth, it is also true that most meeting venues are now prepared to handle it. In addition to bringing the presentation directly to the attendee’s tablet, digitizing your content allows attendees who are preparing for new skills or certifications to access the training portion of the content over and over again.

Shorter, Interactive Presentations

This is really nothing new and has been talked about for the last few years, but the trend will continue through 2016 and beyond. Long, lecture style presentations are going to continue to be replaced with shorter (18 minutes or less), interactive talks.

The one thing that everyone thought would be out, and has not been, is PowerPoint. It continues to be an effective presentation tool, but instead of words, it will continue to be filled with photos, videos and just a few bullets that prompt the presenter to tell their story.
